Next to the 24-hour craze that is nearby Cancún, you can think of Playa del Carmen - or simply "Playa" - as kind of like the party city's cool, laid-back neighbor.
While this former simple fishing village has a rapidly increasing popularity as a tourist destination and a growing population, Playa's 60,000 residents are committed to holding on to the town's relaxed lifestyle and bohemian vibe. Best of all are the city’s white sands, crystal clear Caribbean waters and lush tropical vegetation that will make up your day-to-day landscape.
Playa's dual role as a vacation destination as well as a relaxed tropical refuge means means that you'll have the best of both worlds: a natural setting but with all the amenities the modern traveler could need.
Playa del Carmen's surroundings are brimming with things to explore and experience. You can hop on the ferry to Cozumel for world-class scuba diving, discover nearby Mayan ruins or head to Cancun for shopping and its signature nightlife.
